Caldecott

The Caldecott Medal is given each year to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children. The medal is given by the Association for Library Service to Children. Most years, two or three books receive Caldecott Honor awards. Reading levels are picture books through middle school reading level.

Students in this club may read any Caldecott Award book (Medal or Honor). Students write the books read on the white Caldecott reading logs that are in the library. Kindergarten, first, and second graders test after each 10 books. Third, fourth, and fifth graders test after each 25 books. The tester asks questions about two books from the student’s list. Questions are simple, so a student who has read the books will pass. Students receive a small prize in front of their class after the completion of each list. Hall of Fame = 150 books

Caldecott books are together in the Easy section of the Library. They have a NEON ORANGE sticker with the words “Randolph Caldecott Award” and a medal shaped logo.
