From the Fine Arts Department

May 2023

Dear Georgia O’Keeffe Families:

At the end of each school year, Fine Arts teachers send an email to parents saying goodbye as we prepare to change schools. This year, I am so happy to say that I am not preparing to leave! Next year, our students will have BOTH Art and Music! I thank everyone who expressed support for the Fine Arts expansion this winter–your support does make a difference!

If you are pleased with this change, and feel that the art experience your child has had through the Fine Arts program has been beneficial, please consider contacting your Board of Education member. Please thank her for supporting the arts by funding art and music teachers in our elementary schools and encourage her to continue that support. (If there is anything special your child has experienced in art, you could mention that briefly.)

Board members are always anxious to know that their actions and decisions have made a positive difference. The Board member for your school is Courtney Jackson. You can reach her at:

Over the summer, there are many things you can do to help your child maintain his or her interest in art. They include:

  • Log on to virtual collections from the many museums in our state and around the world. Engage with the many projects offered by these sites.

  • Work to expand your child’s art supplies with more paper, crayons, and colored pencils.

  • Make art together: build using found materials and look to your community or to nature for inspiration.

Thank you for supporting the arts in your homes with your children and in our community. I wish you all a restful summer and I will see you next year!

Sincerely,

Amanda Clattenburg
